Diet for Hypoglycemia

Is the diet for hypoglycemia the same as the one for diabetes? Isn't the idea just to stabilize blood sugar?

  1. yes
  2. A person with hpoglycemia has to eat many small meals a day. They can't go any great periods of time without eating, or they can become very weak...even to the point of passing out. You have to be very careful when dealing with hypoglycemia, because it can eventually lead to diabetes. Talk to a doctor....they can direct you better!
  3. NO hypoglycemia is low blood sugar .diabetes is high blood sugar usually controlled by meds.
  4. There is no similarity between the 2 except overtreatment of diabetes (hyperglycemia) causes hypoglycemia temporarily. Hypoglycemia is rare but when people go too long without food and get dizzy, lightheaded, fatigue and headache they figure it is hypoglycemia, but is usually something else and normal. I used to get that everytime I went without food for too long but I have not had that for many years. See 15th pargraph under below site on fasting which tells a story about it and how to tell what it is before getting the test from the doctor.
  5. No it's not. when you have diabetes you can be: hypoglycemic = low blood sugar or hyperglycemic = high blood sugar that means a person who is hypoglycemic should eat a lot of times a day to avoid fainting because of the low blood sugar level. a diabetic's diet will depend if he/she is hypo or hyper glycemic
  6. Hypoglycemia is not the same as diabetes, but both can have the same roots. For both Diabetics and Hypoglycemics, eating several small meals a day is healthiest, as it puts less pressure on the body's insulin supply to keep pushing insulin in to keep the sugar down. I take a Diabetic drug that is supposed to rarely cause hypoglycemia, but if I do start to feel low sugar I am signalled to take a glass of orange juice or a candy or something.
  7. If you treat diabetes the same as hypoglycemia you can either raise your blood sugar to high or in the case of hypoglycemia you can possible pull your sugars even lower. Check with your doctor lest you help yourself into a coma.
