Is my hypoglycemia diet ok?
I have hypoglycemia and have lost considerable weight. Im normally an athletic 195 pounds but currently weight approx 160 pounds. My diet, as of today, consists of 6 meals, 3 hours apart with approx: 20 ; 40 ; 5 grams of protein, carbs and fat respectively. Thats approx 120; 240; 30 grams of protein, carbs and fat respectively each day. (no fruits, sugars etc. and all whole foods) Does that seem appropriate for hypoglycemia? Should i increase or decrease the protein bearing in mind my weight loss? I also believe im not absorbing all the nutrients... Also, how long before i can expect to improve? Can i expect to be cured?

- You seriously need to talk to your doctor about that. Hypoglycemia can be dangerous...you need to ask someone whose profession it is to answer that type of question.
- What is the prevailing cause of your hypoglycemia? Either way, you are not taking in nearly enough calories. Your kcals should be closer to 2300-2400, more if you have achieved rapid weight loss (more than 1 lb/week). Why the huge variance from your "normal" weight? There are too many questions that I would have. Rapid UNINTENTIONAL weight loss is a huge concern and you should be checked out immediately by a physician.
- It sounds fine. You can eat fruit, as long as it's fresh fruit, just no fruit juice. I'm not sure what you mean by improvement, are you having attacks? And no you will never be cured. Best cure for an attack, given to me by someone who is one of the top people at a drug company, it may sound weird, but it really works: One large glass of ice cold coffee, add a lot of milk to make it quite light to coat your stomach, add about 1 or 2 tbs of sugar (yes real sugar), drink real fast. The ice will help the coffee enter your blood stream faster, the sugar will bring you back to normal, the coffee is the best way of getting it into your system. Also works for migraines. It is amazing it really works, it brings your blood sugar back to where it belongs almost immediately. A good diet to follow is the South Beach Diet, but as you aren't losing weight you can play with it and add what you want to keep it as a way of life. It recommends the 3 meals a day and the correct foods. I never had an attack while on the diet, which is why I'm going back on it.
