Why is it recommended that people prone to hypoglycemia avoid Valerian Root?
While doing research on Valerian Root I've found that most sites recommend against its use if you're prone to hypoglycemia... but I can't find any explanation as to why. Valerian Root is supposed to act as a mild sedative for sleep aid and I'd like to try it, but I am prone to hypoglycemia. Anybody have more information?

- I have known that Valerian Root in homeopathic potencies soothes tics and the kind of maladies where involuntary movements are involved. I have also known that coordination of extremities in particular is a function originating from cerebellum and partly in cerebrum too. I have also known that Hypoglycemia causes starvation in brain for various required raw materials for its function and can do irrevocable damages by way of scar tissues, posterior cerebral artery infarction etc. as in the case of cerebral palsey and later on develop in hypotonic states, tics, behavioural disorders, fits, hysteria, epilepsey etc.etc. etc. As per homeopathic theory which I believe to my experience of many many years as being true, what the medicine cures in homeopathic doses, the medicine is also capable of creating in material doses. If take this clue and link these factors and arrive at the conclusion that the valerian roots used out of place in material doses or overdoses, could be creating what it cures in homeopathic potencies, you will have the answer. Another factor is the cause of Hypoglycema and the connection of valerian roots to the pancreatic disorders. Therefore, not adviseable to use in hypoglycemic states because it increases the cerebral damages. If you do your research with these links in mind, I am sure, you will come across thrilling experiences of discoveries one after the other. The human body works mysteriosly as its creator. And you could be witness to those mysteries. Use the link to know this medicine in homeopathy. Though at the time of Boericke this medicines has not been prooved to the extent I would like that to have been proved, nevertheless the indicated symptoms there are sufficient clues to construct your plot. with best wishes. homeoint.org/books/boericmm/index.htm
- Heya Timo - had to hit the herb monographs to double-check this one. I have never heard of links between hypoglycemia and valerian. I re-read the pharmacology and did a quick literature search... As far as I can see, valerian has no impact on glucose levels. I can't find any evidence that there's need for caution in people prone to hypoglycemia.
