Atkins Low Carb Diet Knowledge Base
What's the difference between the Atkins diet and a Low carb diet? I would like to lose weight. I feel like I have to put myself on a "diet" because otherwise I'll have no clue what I can and can't eat, and what I should and shouldn't be doing. Whats the difference between a low carb diet, and going on the Atkins diet? Are they the same? If not, whats better? Thank you for your answers :)
Atkins Low Carb Diet? I am going on the Low carb Atkins diet next week. I am 15 so I go to school, can someone suggest different ideas of food I can have for my lunch that have no carbs or hardlys any. Also, if youve been on the diet how much did you loose in how much time?? I have been on this diet before for about a month
Is the Atkins iet essentially a low carb diet? So if someoe were going on a low carb diet, they would basically be on the Atkins diet? (not me, my friends fiance) I always thought a no carb diet was almost impossible seen as there are carbs in almost everything and seen as we get energy from carbs, what the heck are you fueling yourself on?
Can the low-carb diet (atkins) be a permanent lifestyle change? Some people have said that, at best, it should only be used for 6 months max since it is so high in fat and protein and so low in carbs. I've heard others (not doctors) say that it is perfectly healthy to make low-carb your permanent way of eating for the rest of your life. What's the truth here? If someone spends several years doing low-carb will they eventually have heart trouble or any other medical trouble relating to the diet?
Muscle spasms related to Atkins/Low Carb Diet? Last week, I started the induction phase of the Atkins diet, and cut out all non-veggie carbs. Last night, a muscle in my upper left arm started spasming like crazy. It has continued, on and off, since. Could these be related? If so, what should I do to stop it? I'm getting married soon, and my wedding dress is too tight, so quitting is not an option :)

success on atkins diet and low carb foods? I was wondering if anyone has had success on the atkins diet. How much where you able to lose during induction? Also, what are some low carb foods (mostly veggies) that you ate and where successful at losing while eating them. I am sick of the ones that are on the list so I was wondering if any other ones where ok to eat as well. Thanks!
Has anyone tried Atkins or another low carb diet with no results? I went on the Atkins program for about 2 months and had NO weight loss! I wasn't working out so that could have been an issue but I was under the impression that a low-carb diet did not have to be accompanied by a workout program to see results. Has anyone else had a similar experience? I did eat the Atkins Advantage bars often...maybe that threw me off? I'm not a big meat eater so it was realllly hard for me to stomach all the meat... anyone have a better low-carb program that includes nuts and things the Atkins induction forbids?
Question about Atkins/Low Carb diet? If I start the low carb diet this coming Friday (11/24) and stick to it really well, follow everything I'm supposed to do, and exercise at least 5 times a week, how much weight should I lose by January 15th? Please serious answers. No rude comments. Please. Thanks for the help.

What to eat on a low carb diet such as Atkins? I am trying to do a low carb diet and I was wondering what should I eat in order to make the diet most effective and efficient? I know cut out all breads, pastas, sweets, etc...but what veggies are okay and what isn't? the obvious potatoes and other starchy vegetables I know. Can someone please fill me in or give me a website to refer to. thanks!
Atkins low carb diet???? if you're doing atkins, but you're a veggie...does the diet basucally consist of, lettuce & cheese ?????????? Or what other veggie foods contain NO carbs???????
Is the Atkins or low carb diet safe? I was on the Atkins diet and I loved it. I ate lots of meat and vegetables. I didn't miss sweets, and I lost 52 pounds in 6 months without having to work out (although I know I should have been exercising). I talked to several people who are in the medical field and they were saying that it is unhealthy; that I could develop kidney stones or worse. I got off the diet, and later gained all the weight back plus some. At the time I didn't have medical insurance, so I couldn't get checked out by a doctor. I eventually got insurance and went to the doctor. My doctor said that there was nothing wrong with Atkins as long as I drank plenty of water.
Why do they discourage cheese on a low-carb diet? The author of low carb diets, Atkins says that you should only eat 2-3 ounces of cheese a day on the induction phase of the atkins diet... but most cheeses contain 0 carbs... So why did Atkins restrict cheese? Is it because of the high calorie nature of cheese? Any ideas?
Is it possible to lose weight with a low-carb (non-atkins) diet? I'm concerned about my blood sugar and insulin levels so I'm considering going on a low carb diet where I would eat about 300 carb calories and 1700 other for a few months in hopes of losing 20 lbs or so. I also plan on doing vigorous exercise to accompany it. I heard that when you go off low car, you immediately start gaining and there's no hope of keeping it off. Is it possible at all to keep it off if I watch total calorie intake, exercise and keep a healthy balanced diet? My plan after i complete my diet would be to go on a 1000 carb/1000 fat&protien diet which I would stay on for life as well as doing good exercise a few times a week. Is this possible? Or would I immediately baloon up after I start eating more carbs?
Question for anyone who has been successful on Atkins or any low carb diet? I just recently started the Atkins diet. I need help with meal ideas to get me through stage one? I can't figure out how to eat three meals a day and stay under 20 grams of carbs. I'm only finding meat and eggs having no or very low carbs. The veggies are low but don't seem low enough to stay under 20 grams. If anyone can suggest some daily plans to help me stay under 20 grams, id really appreciate it.
Suggestions for Low-Carb Atkins diet? Alright, so if I follow the Atkins diet for approximately 1.5 - 2 weeks what are my chances of going into ketoacidosis? And what should I watch out for?
which is more better atkins diet or just simple low carb diet? Can somebody tell me which is better Akins or just a simple low carb diet. I heard from somebody that atkins is not really good for diet coz don't have much fruits than a simple low carb.. but i totally don't know about this such things coz i use to eat green leafy vegetables, soups and fruits and i was just about 110-112lbs but when come over "oh gush" i am now 158lbs (i am just in my late 20's and 5'0 inches tall for an oriental lady). Well, i am totally worried about myself coz i do much exercise than my husband. Actually there were times i lose 10 pounds just soups and other vegies. But can somebody tell me (in atkins or just a simple low carb -- i don't know which is better) what kind of food and how much carbs are in different food that we need to eat every meal. I really need your opinion concern people because my husband had a 3 by pass surgery last 2 years ago and he need it this but when he asked his doctor about this stuff, he just simply said "just search in internet". I don't know why his doctor cannot provide. Please help us.. Thank You and May The Good LORD Bless You Always! yes it's hard to avoid fruits, veggies and soup (misso broth tofu, chinese crab sweet corn soup broth stuffed cabbage leaves etc...) since i grew up with this stuff and i don't eat much meat except fish and i drink a lot of green tea before and lemon juice. The reason why i weigh a lot because of my husband coz i eat what he eats like pizza, fries, burgers, chilli dogs etc... but everytime i eat burgers i always have diarrhea, i don't know. Anyways before my husband had surgery he was about 400 something pounds (5' 8 inches tall) and after his surgery he weigh 250 pounds (2 years ago) and now he weigh 310pounds. So he decided to loose weight coz he scared to have another surgery again if there is.
How safe and effective is the Atkins diet? I`ve been on the Atkins low carb diet now for 4 days. I`ve lost 8lbs already (I`m on the induction phase) I understand that the initial weight loss will mostly be due to water loss but how can I be sure that my continued weight loss will be fat and not water. Atkins has been around for so many years and although I feel a bit nauseous from all the fat and protein consumption its basically the only diet I don't feel hungry on.
Low Carb Diet/Atkins? After losing weight on Atkins, How do you incorporate carbs into your diet without gaining the weight back? Give me your personal experiences thanks!
I am starting Atkins, the low-carb diet, but I need advice on a good multi-vitamin first? The diet is very low-carb (20 per day), but I want to start a good multi vitamin before I start the diet (Aug.01,2009) I dont have lots of money, so I hope to try to find one that fits a reasonable budget...also, I dont think I can have sugars...or...? Thanx!! Maybe even if I just knew what it was I was looking for in multi-vitamin that is specific to a low-carb diet! :) Then I could check around...
What are some low carb foods and is low carb the best way to go on a diet? I am thinking about trying a low carb diet, kind of like the Atkins diet but I'm going to try this on my own, not with a program. What are some good low carb foods that I can eat that will keep me going during the day? Also, does anyone have some lower back exercises? I can't find ANY that are doable without some machine contraption and I can't afford one of those!
Very low carb diet + cardio decreases energy and muscle growth? I've been weight lifting for a few years now, and I've never tried a very low carb/Atkins type diet accompanied by cardio because my friends keep telling me I'll lose ALL of my energy and I won't have any muscle growth...in fact, they tell me I'd probably LOSE muscle. Well, I kinda let myself go this winter, and I went from my personal average weight of 180lbs to 205. Now it's summer, and I have a cruise coming up in September, so I want to lose about 30 lbs in 3 months by doing very low carb + cardio, while AT LEAST trying to maintain my muscle percentage. Is this possible by continuing to eat high protein + low carb, doing cardio, and staying on my muscle growth workout regimen? Or, should I just sacrifice some muscle growth and do very high reps + low weight while trying to lose weight? If you don't have a clue, please don't take a guess...I only want answers from people who are knowledgeable on the subject. ;) **Also, would this possible on a true Atkins NO carb diet? Wow! You all seem to be unanimous on not doing Atkins or even low carb, and you all seem to know what you're talking about. I didn't think atkins would be that bad! ;) I will definitely NOT do atkins now. I'll try to heed your advice, and just limit portions, eat good carbs, drink more water, and do high intensity interval cardio. Thanks!

difference in atkins, south beach, and just winging low carb? I am on a low carb diet. Not Atkins or South Beach per se, but just not eating any more than 20 carbs total (minus dietary fiber) daily. A friend and I were dicussing this (she is an avid Atkinser). She insists you lose more weight on Atkins than if you just cut out carbs. Anyone have personal experiences to compare?

Atkins diet and low carb food? I've been on the atkins diet for about 4 days now and i'm getting a little confused with the whole counting carbs part of it. Let me explain what i've eaten so far today and see if someone is able to tell me if my carb consumption sounds okay or not. I had one piece of chicken for lunch (just a thigh). Then later I had some chicken (about 5 small strips) with a cup of cooked bell peppers and I had mustard for my sauce. I've had one of the atkins bars (the cinnamon bun) or whatever it's called, it has 3 net carbs in it. I've also had 1 string cheese that contains pastuerized milk. I've drank 1 lemonade crystal light to go packet and 1 diet rite soda which is made with splenda. Now, i'm going to make a lettuce wrap with a piece of lettuce, hamburger meat, a few small chopped onions, a little shredded cheddar cheese and a small bit of sour cream. Does that go over the carbs i'm suppose to be consuming or not? I don't believe it really does but just want to make sure since i've just started, I don't want to mess the diet up at all. Also, is any sugar what so ever allowed on this diet because i noticed all the sour creams have at least 1 g of sugar and it says you're allowed to have sour cream so i'm a lil confused. And as far as salad dressings go the hidden valley ranch packets you can buy, you either mix it with buttermilk or mayo, I bought the kind to mix with mayo but it says to add milk to it also so i don't believe that will work.. i was thinking to use water instead, there's only 1 carb in the packet and less than 1 carb in this blue cheese dressing i bought and it contains no sugar so will these dressings work? One more thing, paprika, is it okay or no? Anyone who can answer my questions i would appreciate it! Also, I'd love to hear any success stories from the atkins!!
Has anyone here ever done Atkins or any other low carb diet? If you have, please tell me your experiences with it. I am eating low fat, low calorie and hungry all the time and exercising and the scale will not budge. I gained 60 pounds with my pregnancy. Baby almost 11 months old now. I have lost 30 pounds which came off quickly after the birth but now the scale does not budge. I am not breastfeeding. Also, when you get into ketosis with purple test strips which I read about in Dr. Atkins book does that mean you start burning fat and losing weight.
Are you on the Atkins diet or any other low carb diet or know someone that's on it? How long have you or someone else you have known been one that diet? I heard when it was popular that it works, but...i like what I like but will continue to exercise to maintain or loose weight. ok, just so y'all know I'm not considering going on this or any diet. I did the low fat thing in the mid '90s and that was just as bad. I learned quickly to just balance it, but more fruits and veggies. I never stopped eating sweets and breads, and it's hard to stop eating meat but easy to lower it.
How much water a day on low carb diet? How much water a day should I drink to maximize weight loss on a low carb diet simular to Atkins. I've heard alot of water and I've heard to limit water intake.

Are Hydroxycut products effective supplements for someone on a low-carb diet? I just finished the Induction phase of the Atkins diet, losing eleven pounds. It was four pounds under the estimated fifteen pounds but I'm still happy with the result. I'm considering staying within the Induction group of foods to keep my weight loss around ten to fifteen pounds every two weeks. My question is whether or not a product such as Hydroxycut or Hydroxycut Hardcore will interfere with the Induction phase of the Atkins diet. Any info you folks can provide will be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

I have been following the Atkins diet for 3 days now, and i know that isn't long enough to show results but i don't think i should be feeling any bigger either. is it possible that my body still isn't used to it so its taking in more fat or something. I am 135 at 5'6 and I wanted to know how much weight would I lose on Atkins or low carb dieting on average? I am 135 at 5'6 and I wanted to know how much weight would I lose on Atkins or low carb dieting on average for the first 2 weeks? I don't wanna hear how bad it is so everyone who is non atkins keep your comments. I've tried eating low calories low fat and exercise all together and I lost 0 in the past month. I used to be extremely overweight...I lost it in a healthy way. My bones are very small I can't really hold 135 on my body. I went down to 115 and I was healthy looking if anything I need to do weights afterwards. My body fat is too much for my body right now. I'm eating less than 20 carbs and lean meats as well.
For all the low-carb/atkins dieters..I need help? I lost 10 lbs over the past few weeks from my low-carb diet, but I don't feel like I'm being as successful as I want to be. I did Atkins before, and lost 20 lbs, and tried so hard to keep it off once I weened myself off of it, but I eventually gained it all back. I don't know what to do!! I've been working hard at eating low-carb, and haven't cheated at all, but I'm not sure anymore if I can adjust to this lifestyle anymore. Has anyone gone on to another diet after low-carb and gained the weight back and eventually lost it? I just want to be on a low-calorie diet and lose the weight.
