Hypoglycemia And Alcohol Knowledge Base
Do I have a problem with alcohol-induced hypoglycemia? The thing that scares me about this is I went out and had a beer (one) with a few friends and was able to eat an entire plate of spaghetti. Within the hour I had 2 more beers and was so weak and felt hungry again. If I eat before drinking, I am immediately hungry again if I have only one drink. Alcohol dehydrates but Im talking about eating a LOT of food. Is this pre-diabetic or something? THanks.
Hypoglycemia and alcohol? I think I may be hypoglycemic ( waiting for test results) and I drank alcohol like 5 hours ago and I feel jittery. What can I do to calm my system down?
alcohol and hypoglycemia...? why does alcohol cause hypoglycemia opposed to hyperglycemia? i thought that there were a lot of carbs in beer...
Alcohol and hypoglycemia...? I was diagnosed with reactive hypoglycemia about five years ago... I have not had any episodes, in a long time, other than mild cases seem to arise when I get a cold or illness.. Is it possible that a cold can make your blood sugar fluctuate? Also I was drinking pretty regular, and have pretty much taken that to a complete stop. Could the abrupt halt in alcohol have an effect on my sugar levels, if so will it even back out over time? This is very aggravating!!!
how much is too much alcohol with hypoglycemia? i enjoy drinking every once in a while and i am hypoglycemic. i find that the day after i drink i feel really jittery fatigued and all around useless. keep in mind i only have maybe 2 drinks. is there anyway i can enjoy alcohol or do i have to cut it out of my life all the way? i have tried hydrating myself by drinking water along with the alcohol and this doesnt help. i have also tried eating with the alcohol and this does not help either, i always end up feeling bad the next day...any feed back will be appreciated...am i the only one??
Hypoglycemia (*not diabetic*) and Drinking Alcohol? Hello All, I am hypoglycemic and I would like to know how I can still drink alcohol. I'm not talking about getting drunk, but I would like to enjoy a couple drinks at dinner or out with my friends without getting a headache and tremors!!! I am 25 years old and 130 lbs. Also, please note that I am hypoglycemic and NOT diabetic! I have been hypoglycemic since I was 14 and I manage it with diet and blood-sugar testing. My body can tolerate 2 drinks on a full stomach, and even then I often get a headache and become ill. Many times I will have 2 drinks, I won't even be near drunk, I will feel fine, I will drink water before I go to bed, and then the next morning I will have a headche and puke. I usually puke yellow bile for about 3 hours until I feel normal again. (I'm sorry, I know it's gross!) Many times I will puke before I go to sleep, and I will still feel the same amount sick in the morning and still vomit up bile. And this with only 2 drinks in me! For these reasons I rarely drink. Not drinking has never really bothered me until last week when I was at my friends' engagement party. I had 1 glass of champagne, tons of hor d'ouvres, and a huge 5-course italian meal with a glass of wine. All of this was consumed in about 3-4 hours, so it's not like I ate or drank quickly, and I still had a terrible headache with tremors by the time I got home. I just felt terrible that I can't enjoy meals and celebrations the way other people do. I really envy people who can drink. I don't understand why I can't even have a couple of drinks when I eat so much. I have tried many remedies such as eating alot while I drink, which helps some, but most of the time I still get headaches. There has only been 1 time in my LIFE when I drank alot of alcohol and had no other symptoms. I will tell you the story. It was about 4 years ago and I was going to a concert with some friends. For dinner I ate a sub, then at a bar I had 2 shots of vokda-red-bull and 1 beer. (My friends know about my condition, and I myself was expecting that I would get sick at some point.) Then at the concert I had about 4 more beers. This totaled about 7 drinks over 5 hours, and I was somewhat drunk. Then we ate at Waffle House and I had a fried-egg sandwich and hash-browns with extra cheese. We were still expecting me to be sick, but it never happened. Even the next morning, I felt 100% normal with no hangover. This was the most surprising part, since my hangovers usually consist of killer headaches and puking bile for at least 3 hours in the morning. I don't know why I never got sick. I have since tried to replicate this scenario by eating a full meal after a night of drinking, but it has not worked since. I'm sorry this post is so long! Like I said in the beginning, I am not trying to get "drunk," I would just like to figure out how to enjoy a couple drinks with dinner or something without getting a headache. My main questions are: 1- Are some alcoholic beverages better tolerated than others for hypoglycemics? 2- What exactly do you eat before and after you drink alcohol? 3- I have heard that taking an activated charcoal supplement will help with the symptoms, but I haven't tried them. Has anyone heard of this or tried this? 4- Are there any other supplements or medications you can take before you drink? 5- I don't know if I drink too much or too little water when I drink alcohol. I drink alot of water, so I think I drink too much water when I drink alcohol. How much water do you drink when you drink alcohol? 6- When you do get symptoms such as headache immediately after drinking alcohol, how do you resolve it? 7- I don't know if diabetics experience the same things when drinking alcohol or not. If so, how do you resolve it? I would greatly appreciate personal experiences from other people who have this condition. Please be specific! Thank you to all!
I'm wondering of some tips for living with hyperinsulinism, with resulting hypoglycemia.? I just want to know about lifestyle changes I should make. I'm speaking about alcohol consumption, caffeine consumption, overall diet, etc. I understand that an Atkins type diet is best, with a limit on caffeine and alcohol, but how much alcohol, and caffeine is too much? I'm just trying to live a normal life. I believe my condition is related to increased insulin resistance. Thanks!
a couple of questions about diabetic patients? Why are diabetic patients adviced not to drink alcohol?I know it leads to hypoglycemia, but how? Why do some of them lose their teeth? What happens when a diabetic patient fight?Does he suffer from hypo or hyperglycemia? And what happens when he took an insulin injection jusst before fighting, does he suffer from hypo or hyperglycemia and why? I already searched for some info on wikipedia but i found no answer to the fighting question.I have been thinking a lot about that lately and I need some answers ,please!
Marijuana Use and Paranoia related to hypoglycemia? I have smoked weed and did not freak out for first three times. But after one incident where my friend started freaking out, I can't forget that time and start freaking out and cant breathe. I have heard that this is the case when people drink alcohol a lot in empty stomach and when hypoglycemia kicks in, palpitations and breathing problem step in as well. Could hypoglycemia be the cause of anxiety attacks when one is high or just the mind set? amplified feeling of fear? no doubt that this issue is controversial
Hypoglycemia? Or just sensitive to blood sugar dropping? For my entire adult life, and probably back into my teen years (I'm 34 now), I've had hypoglycemia-like symptoms if I skip a meal. Not only do I feel extreme hunger, but I also get light-headed, shaky, weak, sometimes cranky and sometimes have mild palpitations. I've always had regular physical exams all my life, and often these exams include routine bloodwork. Whenever my blood sugar (glucose) level is tested, it's totally NORMAL. Even after a 12 to 14 hour fast, when I feel like crap by the time I get to the lab, it's STILL normal! Not high, not low, but right where it should be. The only explanation my Drs. offer is that my body simply is very sensitive to drops in glucose levels, just like some people are more sensitive than the "average person" is to caffeine, alcohol, etc. (I also have a fast metabolism, but not fast enough to be hyperthyroidism. I've had that tested too! Please see my other Yahoo Question on that topic.) Am I alone in these symptoms? Hopefully not! :)
Who still believes that drinking alcohol raises a diabetic's blood glucose? After reading these statements taken from reputable websites: “While moderate amount of alcohol can cause blood sugar to rise, excess alcohol can actually decrease your blood sugar level -- sometimes causing it to drop into dangerous levels.” “Small Amounts of Alcohol Slightly Increases Risk of Low Blood Sugar in Certain Diabetics.” Webmd.com “Hypoglycemia Causes: Common causes of low blood sugar include the following: Overmedication with insulin or antidiabetic pills Use of alcohol” Emedicine.com And, finally, the American Diabetes Association says: “This is why drinking as little as 2 ounces of alcohol (about 2 drinks) on an empty stomach can lead to very low blood sugar.” http://www.diabetes.org/type-1-diabetes/alcohol.jsp A heterogeneous bunch of answers, so far. I'm not totally convinced of this myself, but the explanation given by the American Diabetes Association makes more sense than the positions taken by those of you who don't have any reinforcement other than hearsay evidence. Come on, you guys... cough up some science.
Hypoglycemia wanting to help my sister.? Hi, My sister suffers from terrible hypoglycemia. she often has hypos and if eating the wrong thing or having the smallest amount of alcohol will affect her for days. She has tried so many things, is so strict on her diet and trying to find some emotional cause etc but I just feel so sorry for her. She can't even have a single glass of wine as it just destroys her. She's young and wonderful but this brings her down so much. Has anyone had this, beaten it..found a way to occasionally have one drink without paying for it for days? I would love to hear from you.
Unmanged Hypoglycemia...please read?!? ok well i get low blood sugar occasionally with the usual symptoms, i have a glucose pill or eat a granola bar or a sucking candy, drink water, relax and i feel better in a few minutes.... and i take all the precautions to prevent it from happening: meals throughout the day healthy food moderate junk (cookie one day, nachos once or so during month, etc) no soda no coffee no alcohol fruits and veggies everyday multi vitamin lots of water yet either i get the symptoms of hypoglycemia at least once a week, or i feel very sorta dazed at various points of the day i had a blood test in sept.and my glucose level was 63...and my nutrition professor said it was like that cause i was fasting, but then i was recently told that my fasting level should be at least 70 (norm is 65-99) so why i am feeling so crappy when im doing everythng right??? what should i do? i also get other symptoms i recently learned about: tired upon awakening after a full night sleep tired throughout the day not diabetic....like 5-8 pounds overweight, i dont exercise enough either and i dont have any symptoms of type 1 diabetes
Anxiety disorder or Hypoglycemia? I use to be a heavy drinker for 2 years. im currently 23 years old. One day after drinking a lot of alcohol and redbull combined i had terrible heart palpitations that sent me to the hospital. i was having anxiety attacks frequently. its been 1 year now since this has happened and i hardly get the anxiety attacks but i still feel nervousness. time has been healing me...if time has been making me better and since is was caused so abrubtly after a night of drinking could i have been suffering from hypoglycemia...btw i quit drinking for that whole year so thats why im assuming its a chemical imbalance in the body not the brain. it was way to abrubt in my life to happen for anxiety disorder in my opinon. after that one day i have been having quote on quote panic attacks, but obviously without doing anything to get myself better there gradually going away. So what is this...hypoglycemia or anxiety disorder?
Can hypoglycemia effectively mimic most symptoms of type 2 diabetes? I'm talking about occasional pain in extremities, dry bloodshot eyes, occasional frequent urination/increased thirst, sweating, fatigue. Also for some reason I notice a sharp increase in symptoms immediately after having something with lots of sugar in it. Caffeine can sometimes produce this response for me. Alcohol produces the most horrific response, within minutes I feel absolutely terrible, even with one drink. However my blood sugar readings, even fasting blood sugar, come out to low or low-normal. I should mention I'm 28 years old and have been very skinny for my entire life, I am often sedentary but generally I rarely overeat. My father has type 2 diabetes but he got it sometime after he turned 65 years old, which seems to be the typical pattern according to most websites. So essentially I'm asking what condition(s) can cause diabetic-like symptoms, without being actual diabetes? Hypoglycemia seems possible, does it not?
Are my reactions to alcohol normal? Every time I drink alcohol I get terribly sick. Not just the average hangover, and no headaches. It doesn't make a different what I am drinking. Last night I had 2 beers and this morning I had to pull over on my way to work and throw up. Also, sometimes when I drink I will black out and forget half of the night. (yes this has happened after drinking a lot of alcohol but it has also happened from only having around 5 beers) And I honestly can't remember half of the night. I'm starting to wonder if these reactions to alcohol could have something to do with my blood sugar? I've never been tested for hypoglycemia or diabetes but I was wondering if something like that could be the cause of these symptoms? Thank you
Does anyone have unpleasant symptoms from sugar/alcohol/caffeine, but without diabetes? If I have anything with concentrated amounts of sugar, I get slight pricking in my hands and feet, and often get tired. If I combine caffeine with the sugar product(s), the effect is much worse, and I start to feel very foggy and ill, and I may start to look pale and sweat. Sometimes I even get genital itching. The worst effect of all is from alcohol, even ONE unit (a glass of wine, for instance) I feel very unpleasant, and need to urinate almost immediately. Two units and its even worse, I get sweaty and my eyes get dry and gritty, three and I'll feel awful for the whole night AND the entire next day. Fasting blood sugar 1.5 years ago was normal, on the low end. I will be getting this test again within a week. The problem is the symptoms fit aspects of hypoglycemia AND diabetes, but neither one can be diagnosed with me. Is there such a thing as "acquired sugar intolerance"? I never used to have these symptoms before 4 years ago. I'm now 28 and have always been thin, I do not fit the criteria for metabolic syndrome, I do not have other health conditions. However my response to sugar/caffeine/alcohol is getting progressively worse, albeit slowly. Does anyone have anything similar, or heard of anything like this?
Hypoglycemia - Feel Drunk? Over the past few days I've been feeling a bit down with symptoms such as sweating, shaking, headache, muscle ache and nausea. At first I passed it of as just being a bit under the weather a bug perhaps. Then last night I felt like I was drunk although I haven't had any alcohol in about a week. I couldn't concentrate, a task that should have taken me an hour or so took 6 hours. I was slurring words, acting strange, slow reactions being surprised easily etc like a tired drunk... So I ate loads of chocolate to see if that'll do anything I felt a little more stable but still not myself. I woke up this morning and now I'm like a hyperactive kid, I went to get breakfast and I actually told the dog how good he was looking, what the hell?
Reactive Hypoglycemia anyone? I was diagnosed with this about 2 years ago and always knew something was up. Over the last two years I've battled major pain and suffering but I now I am free of alcohol and on a great diet for it, the Blood type diet O non. That's the only one that works all the rest are now good on the BTD. Well I am now ready to face my future with this condition. I have a lot of questions so here it goes. Is it really a condition or is it a natural occurance? I've had it all my life. Is it really a bad thing, when I eat well I feel like superman but I when I don't I feel like Lois Lane? What works, what doesn't? How does it affect your life? I have problems socializing most of the time because of it and people think I'm gullable when actually I just don't care sometimes, I have my episodes. People often thing that I don't like them because of it, not much expression at times. Do you have the same problems? I mean only the BTD O non works not the A or any of those, I feel there is a scam on the diet.
Does cosuming acohol affects me if I have Hypoglycemia? Hi, Im 18 years old and I have had Hypoglcemia since I was a child. From some months ago until now, I've had problems when I have alcoholic drinks. Not always, but almost ever time I have just more than 2 or 3 drinks. I get really dizzy and confused, to the point I lose complete track of everything. A friend of mine even asked me if I was hypoglycemic, he told me about his sister, that she also had the same condition, and said he was worried, since I had the same symptoms when "drunk" that maybe I just wasn't drunk, but having some effects from the conditions. Last week, I had 4 12oz glasses of juice with a little bit of rum. but I still felt bad and lost track of everything. My bf took me to the hospital. I was given medicines by needle, and when my blood was checked my sugar was up to 300. I want to know if this was caused by some alcohol intoxication, or it is being caused by my conditions, I;m going to be more cautious of what I consume, but I still don't know what happened. My bf also mentioned that I was coming and leaving from conciousness, that I would go unconcious and stop breathing and then react back again suddendly.
Alcohol poisoning - MRI results are ok, but speech loss? About 2 weeks back a close friend of mine slipped into coma. This happened at night and someone found out in the morning and immediately took him to the hospital. My friend was not well for a few days before this happened and was a habitual & heavy drinker. The doctors cited the heavy drinking as the cause of the coma. They also said it was hypoglycemia. My friend stayed in coma for about 4 days and he is conscious now. The doctors had the oxygen tube removed, but left the food pipes in. Now (for the past week or so) my friend is awake and can barely lift up his head and limbs, does not have any bladder / anal control. His eyes are open and it looks like he tries to talk. But no words come out - only incomprehensible sounds and then he begins to cry. The doctors did a CT Scan and just yesterday did an MRI scan. They also tested all organs - heart, BP, kidneys, liver etc., all results came out to be normal - by the way my friend is about 70 years old. The MRI scan was the last test the doctor had to do, and now that the results were good, the doctors have said that my friend is out of any danger and can be safely discharged from the hospital. But our biggest problem now is that my friend is not yet alright - he still cannot talk, has no bladder / anal control and cannot care for himself - we are not even sure if his memory is intact. The hospital & doctors are some of the best we know, but they have not provided any clues / ideas to try and we are all terribly worried. We can take him home and care for him - but we cannot sit still without trying to help him get better. So can anybody please help with any experiences, any thing that can help my friend, his wife and me to improve the situation. Will my friend ever be back normal again? Yes - he was tested for diabetes as well, no problem there. Apart from drinking he had been in good health, never over weight. What I am hoping to know is if there is any hope for him to get his speech (and possibly his memory) back? I want to try if there is even a very very faint glimmer of hope - anything at all. Surely mankind has come quite some distance in medical sciences, isn't there some research somewhere, that maybe has some answers or even some ideas? We will ensure that he can never get a drop of alcohol anywhere. I understand the effects of alcohol and all that - one of the primary things I do not understand now is the why doesnt the MRI scan show anything - the doctor said that the MRI scan was good and no problems were seen with the brain - earlier the CT Scan also reported similar results. So if the problem is not big enough to show up in the CT / MRI scans, does that indicate that the problem is smaller by any margin? Or does that make no difference at all? I dont think the doctor would have mis-represented the facts!
Alcohol makes me deathly ill! Why? I'm not an alcoholic by any means. I drink maybe once every couple of months- like a beer with friends- or a bloody mary with brunch. I am approaching my 30th birthday- and in the last year I have gone out with friends 3 times and drank socially. All three times I have become violently ill the next day. Vomiting, heavy sweating, the runs, chills, the whole nine yards. SICK, SICK, SICK! I haven't drank a drop in months now because it made me so sick before. I have done some reading on-line- could I have hypoglycemia?
Everytime i eat/drink alcohol, caffine, sugar i get flu like symptoms [10 points]? Its been happening for frequently for almost a year and its getting harder to get out of bed for more then 30 min at a time. The doctor ruled out diabetes and hypoglycemia.. got a MRI/CT/standard blood test everything seemed decent. Been getting constant flu like symptoms with dizzieness all day and horrible reoccuring head splitting headaches.. what could it be? Im going to a neurologist and ENT doctor wednesday so if you can help me narrow it down they could do the rest!
what are the physiological ramifications of not eating in 4 days? My girlfriend of >2 years left me. Maybe a break, maybe not. That is the reason. I am a relatively healthy, 22 year old male. I am serving in the USAF-ANG, so I am not overweight. I have a genetic predisposition for pancreatic problems, especially diabetes II. I usually do not get sick. I normally go about 3 years without getting sick and when I do, it is just a small rhinovirus manifesting in an upper respiratory infection or sinusitis. I'm susceptible to virii, who knew? I haven't eaten anything, not a single bite of food in 96 hours. I am no moron, as you can tell from above. I am a pre-Med student. I know the thresholds for food and water. I have drank a glass of ovaltine before I go to bed for the past few nights. I know my body needs the vitamins and the fluids. Otherwise, I have been drinking Crown Royal and Coke, about 2-4 a day. I don't even get a buzz. It just makes me sick to my stomach. Due to the predisposition for pancreatic problems, the sugar in the coke allows for enough BGLs to be in the right range. Alcohol, in larger amounts can cause dehydration and hypoglycemia. I haven't had either, since I don't consume enough. But the ratio of alcohol to food is not substandard. The alcohol intake and the cessation [sic] of food intake is what bothers me. What is the physiological ramifications of going 96 hours without any solid food. I know about digestion problems, already. How about renal problems? What are the initial manifestations of this? I know that I can die, I can faint and bonk my head, I can develop cardiovascular and neuromuscular problems from dehydration, electrolyte imbalance, and, ultimately, malnourishment. Thank you for your review of the question and, in advance, for your answer. Oh, and just to clear this up: I am not going Ghandi. I am not intentionally starving myself. I just don't crave food. I am not in the slightest bit hungry. I just hurt, metaphorically.
Can a Inner Ear Disorder go unnoticed? For the past year ive been experiencing severe symptoms of Blurry Darkened vision, Dizziness/spinning sensations[possibly vertigo], daily fatigue, and sleep issues.. Ive noticed that ive been getting tinnitus a bit and ear pains[mostly in right ear]. I have had severly tests over the year including a MRI/CT, and bloodwork for diabeties and hypoglycemia all resulting normal.. If it helps i had to completely cut out alcohol and caffine from my diet[Notice they were major triggers to attacks]. I think it may be something to do with a inner ear disorder, could be wrong though.. Any imput on anything will be helpful.. several test*

Nausea when I haven't eaten? For a year or so now, I've been getting nauseous quite frequently. There are two different instances: The first instance is if I haven't eaten in a few hours, I'll get extremely nauseous to where I can't stand to talk or move or swallow, I'll get dizzy, and I'll have to run to get something to eat. I've never thrown up from being nauseous, but I've never really been one to vomit. I've probably vomited a total of 4 times (disregarding alcohol-related instances) in my life. When I eat a meal, I usually don't eat a meal because I feel full very quickly, and then a half hour to an hour later, I'll be hungry again. The second instance is that sometimes when I get hungry, my hunger is causing me so much pain that it's pretty much debilitating until I eat. The cure for my nausea every time is to eat something, and a temporary fix is to drink something sweet or chew gum or eat candy. I also get sick very easily. If it's hot out, all I want to do is sit down and get somewhere cool, and I'll get nauseous whether I've eaten or not. The other night, I went to a concert and all of the sudden, I got very dizzy and I got this weird white noise type thing in my eyes, it was transparent, but I felt that if I didn't go sit down and get water, I'd faint. I also never faint. I've also lost more than 15 lbs over the past 6 months to 1 year. I've gone to the doctor to get it checked out. They said it wasn't hypoglycemia, or anemia. I have thyroid problems that run in my family and I'm supposed to get a thyroid ultrasound. I've tried looking up my symptoms via Google but every site suggests hypoglycemia or diabetes. Does anyone have any idea of what it could be? Adam: I eat quite often. I often eat snacks, at least 5 times a day. I think I might start keeping a schedule, thanks for the possibly unintentional idea(: T!NY: I'll keep you posted! GORGI: It does sound like stomach ulcers, I'll suggest that. Thank you(: I also need at least 10 hours to not fall asleep later in the day. 8 hours isn't enough, and 9 isn't enough usually either. I'm always fatigued, there's usually no time when I'm not. Help ):
hypothyroidism? Diabetes? Insulin Resistance? PCOS?? I just want some relief!!? I am 37. For a while now I have had the following symptoms and every doctor I've seen has told me everything is within normal ranges so nothing is wrong with me. - weight gain I can't control - sensitivity to cold - puffiness in my face - cysts on my ovary - irregular periods - skin tags - anger and mood swings - hair loss on top of my head, hair growth on my chin and upper lip - frequent gas - always tired, lethargic and sleepy especially after eating any kind of carb even if I eat it with protein - after I eat a carb I get dizzy, light-headed, tired, yawning, irritable, unable to focus, blurry vision, excessive thirt and constant urination - achy joints and muscles - no libido - dry skin, dry hair yet really oily face and acne - brittle nails - tingling and always cold extremities - bouts of vertigo - increased infections- sinus, ear ,throat etc - waist bloating despite doing situps every day- look five months pregnant no matter what I weigh - difficulty sleeping sometimes - anxious and depressed one minute, quick to anger and screaming the next - pain in my ovary and in left breast - pain in my lower right abdomen that feels like intense gas buildup (no ovary there, had it removed due to cyst) - pain in my feet -unable to concentrate - loss of memory None of my doctors can tell me what's wrong. The endo I tried to see yesterday told me it's psychiatric. My Gyn says I don't have PCOS because I am 5'2 1/2 and weigh 128 pounds (I used to weigh 108 only 12 years ago). I exercise every day, drink nothing but water, don't eat sweets and barely eat any carbs at all. I'm tired of constantly feeling like I'm in a fog all day and especially after I eat. I've seen a GI doctor who reluctantly put me on Nexium and I take a daily probiotic. I'm also lactose intolerant. I'm so frustrated and tired of getting nowhere with these doctors. Do I have hypothyroidism and some form of insulin resistance/diabetes/hypoglycemia/PCOS...and if so how do I treat it? What do I eat to make this all go away? How can I lose these 20 pounds even though I'm already exercising and eating right? I want to be able to eat a piece of chocolate and not feel like I'm going to pass out and pee my brains out 20 minutes later! I'm tired of always being the cold one, or the one who can't eat anything or drink alcohol because it makes me sick. People don't like me anymore because of all of these medical problems! Please help! I also forgot - always dry, irritated, itchy eyes - constant thirst and feeling of dry mouth Been with the same primary doctor for 12 years, since all of this started! He can't give me any answers so he keeps sending me to other doctors who also can't seem to give me answers (yet never seem to actually run any tests).
Is this information true? I am reading this book and this information is present. It seems totally incorrect so I am debating wether to keep reading, Honey must not be used at any time internally. It is manufactured from the nectar picked up from the flowers by the bees— good enough in itself, perhaps— then predigested, vomited and stored for their own future use with a preservative added. It is deficient in calcium and has many detrimental effects for the human being. According to one authority, honey is “a magical and mystical word in “Healthfoodland”. It is one of the most over promoted, overpriced products being sold to gullible health food advocates. The great value attributed to honey is delusive… honey is only a little less empty and more dangerous than sugar.” Just as with alcohol, honey, being predigested, enters the blood directly, raising the sugar content very rapidly above normal. To correct this, the pancreas must produce insulin immediately or possible death can occur. More insulin than necessary is likely to be produced, and the blood sugar level then drops below normal. This can produce blackout spells and even death if it goes to low. When blood sugar is below normal, a person will feel depressed. The regular use of honey can create constant imbalances, which in turn will adversely affect the normal function of the liver, pancreas and spleen. Hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia are the results of the use of unbalanced sugars. The balanced sugar in maple syrup and sugar can juice causes no dangerous side effects. Artificial, synthetic, and refined sugars have no place in a natural diet.
I suffer with Hypoglycemic symptoms but my blood glucose level is normal.? Background - I'm 34, working full time with 3 children, married with lots of debt. Two main symptoms are night terrors and restless leg syndrome, lets not forget cravings for all the wrong foods....alcohol, bad carbs and sugar, joint pain, mood swings, panic attacks and difficulty in losing weight and wanting to excercise, brain fog, inability to concentrate. My doctor has stated that Hypoglycemia is something they would NOT diagnose so are putting me in contact with a Psychologist instead!! Understandably stress may play a role in these symptoms but I'm unsure how this may help me. The Zoe Harcombe Diet has highlighted that I may be suffering from this but would prefer to have a diagnoses before cutting out all the things I enjoy and visit a psychologist every week. What can I do or where can I go to achieve a diagnosis that is taken seriously? I notice a couple of responses were related to my intake of alcohol. A bottle of wine at the week-end is not a problem. And with regard to the doctors opinion she was not aware of how to diagnose hypoglycemia and stated that it something they wouldn't diagnose even if it was!!!! Strange, I've suffered with food intolerances for the last 8 years and doctors are unable to help, psychologist help and burning a whole in my pocket paying for tests and nutritionalist help and still no further forward. The only thing the general practionioner is good for is to tell you your mad or you suffer from IBS.....complete tosh!
Dirt or Ring around the Neck area... Real No Joke? I was looking this problem up for my child and finding it hard to believe that there is no serious remedy for this. Does anyone have a real idea.. No it's not that they don't wash their neck because as a concerned parent I even took steps to scrub their neck myself. I did notice other answers mentioned Overweight and diabetics as more often than not who has this type of problem my daughter is thin but does have hypoglycemia. We don't have Medical Insurance so we can't seek a Dr. or Dermatologist help. Someone out there has to know how to solve this problem. (We can get most off w/alcohol but within a week it's back like we never tried and it seems to be loosing it's working ability it's makes her neck raw) it started abt 2yr ago... I'm hoping there's a less sensitive way to get it off and keep it off longer than a week... Anyone know... Someone mentioned Sugar w/liquid Soap we may try that but if you have any Solutions or Non-criticizing comments please let us know... (Not just for my family but for other families who suffer this same problem) Thanks I may have found out something... I was researching on the Web and this is what I have found: Acanthosis nigricans is a skin condition characterized by dark, thick, velvety skin in body folds and creases. Most often, acanthosis nigricans affects your armpits, groin and neck. Source: MayoClinic.com Acanthosis nigricans, you may naturally be concerned about the appearance of your skin. Some steps may help lighten the affected areas of your skin. There's no specific treatment for acanthosis nigricans — but treating any underlying conditions, such as diabetes and obesity, may cause the changes in your skin changes to fade. Thanks Haley, your comment help me find my answer... Wow, it's not JUST dirt it's actually a real health problem... That can be caused by weight and or health Well now we know that this does have to do with my daughters pre-existing health condition. What's sad is people just think she doesn't wash her neck... But now we know and As soon as we can we will get a Dr. to confirm it. Thanks again!!
Liver Enzymes a Little high? I recently had blood work and they said my liver enzymes were a little high. I was told not to drink alcohol for a week nor take Tylenol. I have taken Tylenol almost my entire life, since I was 14 and my brother died of Rye's Syndrome. I don't take medicine very often and I am a light drinker. I am only about 10-15 pounds overweight. My only health problem is hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia and I don't take any meds for that. Almost everything imaginable runs in my family but I have never heard of any liver problems. Can anyone shed any light?
Nausea, headaches, feeling faint, every day...whats wrong? Nearly every day i wake up feeling extremely nauseous, have a headache almost like one you would get after drinking alcohol, and i also feel very faint...my symptoms come in the morning and come and go throughout the day,it has lasted a couple months. I dont know what could be causing this,i dont sleep to much or too little, i excersize, eat well, no bad medical history or family history of anything,I've tried headache meds, caffeine, eating some candy(thought it was maybe hypoglycemia),but nothing works. Im going to be making a dr appt soon here, but i just wanted to maybe get some ideas of what it might be so i go in prepared. Thanks Nope, didnt hit my head : /
How does alcohol react with someone with hyperinsulinism related hypoglycemia? I don't have diabetes. I was diagnosed with hypoglycemia related to hyperinsulinism, which may be related to insulin resistance. I was just wondering what effect alcohol would have on this condition. I was wondering if occasional consumption of alcohol is acceptable, or if all alcohol should be avoided. Thanks.
diabetes paper second paragraph? Diabetics should avoid drinking alcohol as not only is it bad in itself to be intoxicated, but to drink as a diabetic is most conducive towards the start of hypoglycemia. Hypoglycemia is when you have really low blood sugar and it’s not safe anymore. Some of the symptoms that are the same between drinking and hypoglycemia could be to throw up, feel dizzy, shaky, sweating, difficulty speaking, or becoming unconscious. In this case you might not even get help because your friends might not even know the difference between the two, resulting in a very bad situation.
