Diet For Hypoglycemia Knowledge Base
Books and websites on a healthy diet for hypoglycemia? I haven't been diagnosed as hypoglycemic or diabetic but I know I feel awful when my blood sugar is messed up and I want to take care of it now to avoid getting sick...does anyone know of some good sources of information about a healthy diet for low blood sugar?
Did my change in diet cause hypoglycemia? I got dehydrated about 5 weeks ago and for about two days I didn't take in much sugar because I was drinking water rather than soda. For years before this I would drink anywhere from 6 to 18 sodas a day and eat sugary foods constantly. After the two days, I drank a Powerade and about an hour later I started to have problems-headache, lightheadedness, and some coordination issues. The next day I had a bottle of Coke when we were unloading a truck at work and the problems were worse. It started out the same as the day before but then I got very confused and felt like I was going to pass out. My coworkers wanted me to go to the emergency room but I didn't go. It lasted for about 4 hours even though I ate something about an hour into it. Any sugar I had caused these problems for about a month. I started waking up in the middle of the night and in the mornings I feel miserable until I eat something, then I crash again about an hour to two later. Would the sudden change in diet cause this? My doctor told me to avoid foods high in sugar and eat small frequent meals because the results from a 3hr glucose tolerance test came back pretty low and stayed low throughout. The other day I decided to see what would happen if I ate huge amount of sugar rather than a small amount-I don't know why I did this, but I did. I felt ok-I basically just had a headache later that night-but I expected to wake up either in the middle of the night or in the morning feeling horrible. I didn't and I wasn't even hungry when I woke up. I had breakfast but I didn't eat much sugar that day and around lunch I started to have problems again. About a year ago I tried to cut back on soda and I started getting really bad headaches. I went to the doctor and was told that I was having caffeine withdrawl. This time however, after a couple of days I couldn't get going in the mornings without the caffeine so I have been drinking diet soda. I have been having about 6-8 diet sodas a day for about a month, so I don't think it is the caffeine. At first my doctor thought that I was probably diabetic as I had a number of the symptoms-excessive thirst, weight loss, cuts and bruises that linger, fatigue, and sensitivity to sugar among others. He was surprised that the results ended up being as low as they were. Every other test that has been done so far has come back completely normal.
hypoglycemia diet? I experience hypoglycemia commonly. Most often it is reactive, but I also experience fasting hypoglycemia as well. It is a stand-alone condition, as I am not diabetic. My question is this.. what can I do with my diet to make the symptoms of tiredness less crippling? As it stands.. after eating a meal, I can barely stay awake for the next two hours or so. Usually when the tiredness sets in I take a few glucose tablets to stabalize my sugar, but I know that is probably not the best to do. I think I need to change my diet so that I have less of an upward spike (and therefore less of the resulting crash). The problem is, it seems like the only thing I crave is carbohydrates and sugars. Is my body just producing a lot of insulin to make up for the carbs and sugars? What are the best foods to choose? Any help would be great.
Is my hypoglycemia diet ok? I have hypoglycemia and have lost considerable weight. Im normally an athletic 195 pounds but currently weight approx 160 pounds. My diet, as of today, consists of 6 meals, 3 hours apart with approx: 20 ; 40 ; 5 grams of protein, carbs and fat respectively. Thats approx 120; 240; 30 grams of protein, carbs and fat respectively each day. (no fruits, sugars etc. and all whole foods) Does that seem appropriate for hypoglycemia? Should i increase or decrease the protein bearing in mind my weight loss? I also believe im not absorbing all the nutrients... Also, how long before i can expect to improve? Can i expect to be cured?
What is a good diet for someone with hypoglycemia? I have hypogylemic conditions, which are occasionally induced by sugar consumption. This is any and all sugar. My body basically hyper-reacts to sugar, and dumps insulin into my blood stream. What would be a reasonable diet, in order to avoid these symptoms? Thanks!
Confused about new hypoglycemia diet? I was just diagnosed yesterday through a 3 hour glucose test. I am relieved to find that there is an actual medical cause of my symptoms (headache, chronic fatigue, bad memory and inability to lose weight) however I am very confused about the diet. I'm a big "google" fan so I decided to do more research since the doc only had 15 minutes for me. He said to cut out white carbs and replace them with whole wheat or those made from brown rice. Most of the diets are pretty consistent with this however when I look up actual meal plans, they all seem pretty high carb and include foods like crackers, jelly, milk, pasta, etc. I know I can just replace these white carbs with whole wheat ones but it seems like more carbs than I was eating before. Does anyone know a good website where I can find a specific diet plan including a week or two worth of meals and recipes? Thanks :)
Are there any diets for hypoglycemia that can help me gain weight.? I am a 21 y.o. female and weigh 90lbs, which is underweight for my height. I just got diagnosed with hypoglycemia and I'm trying to find a good diet that will help me gain weight. Also, my cooking skills are very limited, so any suggestions on easily-prepared meals would help me a lot.
If someone drinks over two 2 liters a day of diet soda (CAFFEINATED), can it cause hypoglycemia? A friend of mine drinks at least 2-3 two liters a day of diet coke or diet pepsi. They have had hypoglycemia without diabetes diagnosed for about 5 years and it gets worse it seems. Someone told him that it could be diet coke linking to blood sugar drops and bad symptoms. Please explain... there's no sugar in diet coke. What if they limited to 1 diet coke two liter per day? Would that help?
Can Hypoglycemia get worse? I've known about my hypoglycemia for about 3 years now and it effected me but not that badly. Lately its been effecting me a lot more, can hypoglycemia get worse over time? and if so, is it getting worse because of my always eating candy and not following the "hypoglycemia diet"?
Hypoglycemic Diet - Feeling Awful? I started the hypoglycemia diet two days ago and today I feel really really awful. My thoughts are drifting, I can't speak without either forgetting words or saying the wrong one, my vision is swirling with colours and I generally feel like my heads spinning. Feel fine physically although my cheeks are burning hot but temperature normal on testing. Eating normally, had toast, cereal and fruit so far today. Only difference is i'm not eating huge amounts of sugar and biscuits to contol my wobble attacks. Is this normal for the first few days of the diet? I've read several places you feel worse for a while but didn't expect this to be honest. I started the diet because my Grandfather just got diagnosed with hypoglycemia and was told to go on the diet right away - I've always had same symptoms so started the diet with him to help eachother out. Family history on his side of type-2. He started diet gradually and is not having these symptoms but as I dont have work commitments at the moment I decided to start full diet immediately as could accomodate expected initial worsening of symptoms.
Ideas for good wheat free low carb recipes? I'm trying to follow a low carb diet (for hypoglycemia) but I'm also allergic to wheat which makes it a little harder to cook and find simple recipes. Does anyone have any recipes like this that they've tried before?
a proper diet for a diabetic person?n do's n don'ts or them? a diabetic person just had a severe attack of hypoglycemia.wat diet is proposed for bringing the sugar level in stabilized position.wat do's n donts are there.(the severity of the attack is known when she bit her tip of the tongue badly).will the tongue ever grow back to its proper shape and even the sensation is not good in the bitten area
I'm hypoglycemic and dieting. How can I keep my blood sugar up while limiting calories? Whenever I get symptoms (irritability, headaches, dizziness...) I always crave sugar, and I know logically that I'm supposed to eat other things instead (carbs with fat and protein at once) but I have trouble thinking of tiny snacks that involve all those things and are quick to make. I'm trying to eat small things often, which is helpful, but it's usually a matter of grabbing an apple, or an oatmeal bar, and these things don't combine the three types of food. Good for dieting, bad for hypoglycemia. Dieting would be so much easier if avoiding food didn't make me grouchy and sick... (Oh yeah, FYI, I'm 24 pounds above my "healthy weight", according to the body mass index charts. So the dieting isn't crazy. ;)
Hypoglycemia? I've been having major problems w/my blood sugar. If I don't eat between 2-3 hrs after my last meal, my blood sugar drops dramatically. My father-i-law, being diabetic, tested me one day and my blood sugar count was 29. My grandfather, also diabetic, tested me 3 weeks later, and it was 34. I went to the doctor right after breakfast, and they tested my blood sugar. It was 103. I get convulsion like shakes, blurred vision, i break down and cry if it gets really low, and on occassion when its down that low I get extremely sleepy and weak. The doctor said its just a high metabolism and for me to eat more. But, if I do that, I'll be eating all day long!!! I already eat 6-8 small meals a day! I had labwork done 3 days ago, and all came back normal. No diabetes, hypoglycemia, anemia, nothing. So, after following doctor's orders and adding a pre-natal vitamin to my diet, I'm still getting the shakes, headaches, and blurred vision. How can you be positive that you don't have hypoglycemia? I went to the doctor on a full stomach, that was when my blood sugar tested at 103. I'm not currently on any meds. None. The doctor suggested that I just have a high metabolism, but I've tried doing what she suggested (juice in the morning as soon as I get up, 5-6 small meals throughout the day, taking a prenatal vitamin) and nothing has helped. I was having blurred vision all day, along with shakiness, irritability. I ate a Hershey's Chocolate bar, and it all went away. I went back today to get my lab results, & the nurse DID ask me if I'm testing my sugar in the morning. I said no, I don't have one of those things to test it with, he says, "She didn't give you one?" Looks at my chart and says, "Oh, ok." I'm just so confused about what's happening with me! So, I'm guessing my question is if I went to the doctor on a full stomach, is it possible that they were not able to find hypoglycemia? Or is it always there & there's no way to overlook it? Hypoglycemia or high metabolism??
Need help improveing diet...? I want to greatly improve my diet and start cutting out all the bad things I eat. I'm 19, 5'5 and a little over 150 and feel I should be eating better. My boyfriend's stepdad is having heart problems and this was a big awakeing to everyone how important healthy diets are. I mean I eat decently. I drink a lot of water, but I love fried and salty foods. I'm allergic to seafood. My boyfriend and I are talking about cutting the bad fats, bad carbs and sugars our of our diets. I have hypoglycemia so I have to get a little suger, but I dont eat a lot of sweet stuff. We both also have stomach problems and I fit the sympotoms for IBS. So a new diet will help that too. I'm moving out next week and either I'll eat better or worse then I am now. Does anyone have any good diet plans that are heart healthy that we can pass on to our familes. I don't like a lot of meat. I love pastas and rices and chicken. I enjoy cooking. Where can I find info more then just recipes. Thanks!
I need a diet for a teen girl with wacko hypoglycemia (: SHORT? I am 12 and my mom tells me i have hypoglycemia (she has it too) and i did a whole load of research and i have it. I'm getting a doctors appt. just to talk about some stuff but my mom doesn't want me to take the test because it's shown to be very artificial. It's pretty bad right now. I need some good foods and possibly diets to follow. Oh and i would really like to lose weight because i'm 30 lbs over weight :'( also is there any medication for it? Oh and i'm allergic to mushrooms!
what could cause someone to keep having low blood sugar and always be extremely hungry? as in, can't go an? hour without eating or blood sugar dips. they follow the diet recommended for hypoglycemia but it is not helping at all. What could be causing this, and outside of the diet, what can they do to help it? Will this constant hypoglycemia increase the risk of diabetes, or could this be the very beginning of diabetes developing? There is a strong family history of diabetes. Also, if this continues, should they seek out an endocrinologist instead of just the family doctor? so wait, would being hypoglycemic protect someone from ever becoming diabetic? or do you just mean that hypoglycemia does not lead to diabetes?
Is it possible that my (ridiculously) high fiber diet is causing my weight loss and hypoglycemia? Bear in mind all my tests came back negative so i looked at my diet. I dissected my (healthy) diet and realized that i am getting enough protein, carbs, fats, nutrients etc all balanced throughout the day over 6 meals but realized my fiber was well in excess of 110+ grams! I ate whole grain 'everything' and when i snacked i ate nuts, peas, fruits, veges, beans, etc. and when you're exercising, become hungry and eat ALOT its quite achievable to exceed 100 grams when following a whole grain diet... For example, i may eat in a day a can of peas (as soup) which is 28 grams, plus a can of beans - 28 grams. Wheat, oats etc as carbs 300 g which equals 30 g of fiber. I LOVE salads and veges and add to sandwiches and soups - easily another 20 + fruits which i devour = about 3 per fruit. Then there is nuts and avos where i get all my fats from - thats about 10 grams a day there.. Could all this fiber cause malnutrition and subsequent weight loss through impeding absorption...
Reactive Hypoglycemia? Anybody have any medically sound Reactive Hypoglycemia meals? Ive only found one online that listed breakfast/lunch and dinner with snacks but it was only for one day. Any body have several meals for each meal of the day? Again, im looking for responses that refer to Reactive Hypoglycemia Meals only. Not weight loss and not diets just Reactive Hypoglycemia. Thanx
What medications are there for hypoglycemia? If any at all that is. I believe there not to be any but i could be wrong. I am hypoglycemic and sick all of the time, no matter what diet i go on, so if there is a pill that might help with the over production of insulin then... what?
Can anyone using the BARF diet let me know what they think of it? A recent addition to my home is Lola, my tiny little Chihuahua. I have read a lot of information on how really small Chihuahua's can be susceptible to hypoglycemia, and some people who said they were using the BARF diet. I found the web page for the BARF diet, but wanted to ask anyone out there who may be using it what they thought? Is it very expensive? Do you see any health benefits? Weird question, but do the BARF patties smell bad, being raw meat and all?
How do I learn to LIVE with everything I have been diagnosed with? first: porphyria (PCT) at this time this is the only form i know i have....diet for that is a high carb diet....also diagnosed with hypoglycemia...diet for that is a low carb diet..so how do you work the two together. Just using this as a sounding board until I can get to my DR. Had joined a research group for the PCT until I found out they don't care about the other things you were diagnosed with just that one specific thing. Well that is fine and good if you only have that one thing...Please anyone with any help or suggestions message me...I dont' want to eat and get sick one way or the other and i sure don't want to gain alot of weight,oh we can throw in HepC with the diagnoses of things I have...all diagnosed in the last month..yiipee so much fun.....the pain from the blisters of pct is killing me...they become huge size of quarters on the fingertips making it hard to do my job...the itching and burning and sores and blisters have me w/insomnia and the embarrasement in public.
what type of foods do i eat for hypoglycemia? I wanted to change around my diet I dont have diabetes but my blood sugar runs low and I feel like i am constantly testing & I feel "low" at 75 & feel like i have to eat right awayto spike it back up. what type of diet is best for me? how often should I eat?what is too low?how long do I wait to test again before i eat & should I test every time I feel "low" or just eat then wait? any examples thanks a lot
With my diet requirements, how can I effectively lose body fat? I have hypoglycemia and a gluten-intolerance. On a daily basis, I do not consume sugar, fruit, juice, any of the -ose ingredients (or other made from sugar ingredients), wheat & other gluten containing flours, and that pretty much covers the basis. I'm allergic to shrimp, and do not eat seafood at all. My main question is: First, I'm 5' tall and x-small boned (meaning I can overlap my pinky and thumb around my wrist). I weigh 103lbs and my body fat % ranges in 21.0%-21.9%. I would like to be about 15.5% to 16.8% on average (allowing fluctuations). I am not quite sure what my weight will become... assuming 108-110. As long as I'm gaining muscle, the BF% matters more than the weight. I'm a singer/performer as well, and being physically fit for stage purposes is incredibly important. I have to eat about every 2-3 hours or I get nasty symptoms. Combining diet requirements with workouts, what would be most effective way to achieve my goal?
I am currently trying to loose weight but I have hypoglycemia.(Please read details)? I am currently trying to loose weight and I have started to work out and lower my sugar intake but I have hypoglycemia and my appetite is out of control and if I don't get enough sugar, I start to get weak and I also have hunger pains that are unbearable. Is there any medication I can take for Hypoglycemia or a special diet I can go on?
im hypoglycemic. what should i eat? im 15 and i've been passing out and the doctor said it is because my blood sugar gets to a high point then suddenly drops. im always running around with my friends and didnt really pay attention to foods with a lot of sugar until now. what is a good diet for hypoglycemia?
how long for Atkins Diet to work? I decided to start the Atkins diet about 3 days ago because i wanted to lose weight and its a good diet for people with hypoglycemia(i have that). I've lost 6 pounds already but i don't see much change in like the way i look. is it just gonna take longer for me to start lookin skinnier? i've been doing the diet right except that for dinner two nights ago my mom made me eat some baby black eyed peas and collard greens because my grandmother made them and she didn't want me to offend her. but anyway, do you think by around April 20th i'll have visibly lost weight (fat)? thanks! im not like obese i've just got a little fat on my upper thighs and booty. lol
Would pregnancy be bad for my hypoglycemia? My step great-grandmother had a diabetic daughter who just recently passed away. Her daughter started out hypoglycemic as a child at a very young age. Similar to her, I was born with hypoglycemia, gluten-intolerance, and have developed a lactose-intolerance. Around thanksgiving last year, I talked to my step-great-grandmother about not really wanting a child anytime soon. She advised me carrying a baby could be hard on my health, and could cause me to permanently become diabetic (not just gestational). I'm already constantly hungry. My husband and I have been contemplating having a child sometime in the next 2-5 years. I know my diet would be extremely good for the child. I consume no sugar whatsoever (or sweeteners). I eat plenty of produce, take multivitamins, calcium citrate, etc. Due to my chemical sensitivities I use chemically free personal care products and household cleaners. One thing I am quite concerned about is my consant hunger. On a normal basis I'm very hungry ever 1-1/2 to 3 hours (3-1/2 if I'm really lucky). Eating a chicken breast and veggies until my stomach hurts... literally lasts me about 45 minutes at the most. My body digests food quite quickly. Because of my constant need to eat... I've often missed classes, and even lost my job because of my constant need to eat. I can get very sick very fast as soon as I get hungry. If I go too long it feels like I'm on a boat, my pupils dialate, feel near fainting, can't think straight.... Nonetheless it puts me on a rollercoaster thats only relieved by eating. I'm 22 years old. I know I should ask a Doctor, but I'm curious to see if anyone has experienced something similar. To answer GlutenFreeGirl: My doctor found both of them based on my diet and reactions to certain foods. I never bothered getting the test because the end result is the same. As she said to never eat gluten again, and claimed I was having problems digesting the milk sugars. As far as my diet, I eat my required amount of protien, fats, calories, etc. I'm very picky about what I eat, in what orders, etc. I also take 1000mg of calcium citrate everyday, along with a multivitamin, potassium citrate, and magnesium citrate. Diabetes really runs in my family... In fact, my 10 year old cousin already has it. My blood great-grandmother was lucky in that she developed it later in life. Answer to GlutenFreeGirl: I forgot to mention about the sugars. Unfortunately my body cannot handle honey. I can take agave in small amounts, and some ready-made-products sweetened with fruit juice. For me, sugar could literally be deadly. If I accidentally ingest some it feels like torture. I've read stories of a girl who wouldn't change her diet and ended up dieing at only 26 years old. If I don't eat my regular breakfast every morning... The room will spin so hard I can't walk without stumbling around (as if I'm walking on a heavily moving boat).
I'm wondering of some tips for living with hyperinsulinism, with resulting hypoglycemia.? I just want to know about lifestyle changes I should make. I'm speaking about alcohol consumption, caffeine consumption, overall diet, etc. I understand that an Atkins type diet is best, with a limit on caffeine and alcohol, but how much alcohol, and caffeine is too much? I'm just trying to live a normal life. I believe my condition is related to increased insulin resistance. Thanks!
Any natural remedies for hypoglycemia? Aside from completely changing my diet, etc, any natural remedies that would help with the symptoms? Thanks in advance! Hypoglycemia means by blood sugar is too low because my insulin producing glands are overreacting sucking it all up, so I crave sugar. That's the best way to explain it.
I've been waking up out of sleep dizzy, room spinning.? It's been a little over 2 years now experiencing waking up dizzy. I have been to several doctors who can't seem to find anything wrong. I've been tested for anemia, and took some iron and was fine, but still woke up dizzy. I don't get dizzy just out of the blue or standing or any other time other than after I'm asleep at nights, I wake up spinning after a dream of me dancing or spinning. I think it's because Im already feeling dizzy in my sleep. I have learned to get up and walk it off and most times I can go right back to sleep. Sometimes while sitting too still doing something I get the sensation of falling over or a little dizzy and I kind of move around. Sometimes when I lay my head a certain way I get a bit dizzy and have to shift how I lay. But the majority of the time I wake up out of my sleep dizzy. I'm trying a new diet for hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), because I shake when I'm too hungry sometimes and show most symptoms of this disorder, as well as for viral labyrinthitis. I'm trying to see if one of these is the cause. Has this happened to anyone else? What is the reason for waking up dizzy??? Thanks.
Is it hypoglycemia? Do others feel these things? My whole life I've been tested for diabetes and have never been diagnosed, but I frequently have episodes on both sides of the blood sugar ends. I get shaky, sweaty, and nauseous when I eat after I feel like my blood sugar is low. The feeling I get when think my blood sugar is low is shaking, weakness, and kind of confused. I really pride myself in my health and diet, but I keep losing weight and feel like crap. I'm entering my 30's soon. Could it just be hormones?
Anyone with severe reactive hypoglycemia? For the past year and a half, I've had to eat something every 3 hours to keep myself going, sometimes more often. I follow a strictly balanced diet and don't overeat, smoke, drink heavily, have sweets or anything high-carb (white bread, for example). I'm 5'8" and 115lbs and was in awesome shape until I overworked and overstressed myself and caught multiple illnesses (mononucleosis for one, and then a relapse). I've been pretty weak and sickly on and off for about a year now, and have to spend most of my time at home. I've had bloodwork and ultrasounds done, and nothing abnormal whatsoever shows up. Has anyone experienced something like this, and found something that works to feel better and keep blood sugar levels more stable? I had a blood sugar meter a while back, and usually measured around 110mg/dl an hour after eating. 3 hours after eating it's more in the range of high 60's and I start to get symptoms. I know my weight in numbers sounds really low, but I have a very small frame so it really doesn't look unhealthy on me! Doctors never mentioned it to me as an issue at least. I also supplement my diet with whey protein powder. Thanks for your answers! :)
Why am I starving when I wake up? I was diagnosed with hypoglycemia four years ago and since have had to eat more protein. Well for about two weeks I've been waking up starving in the middle of the night and morning. This used to happen when I would eat late at night so I stopped doing that and don't have snacks after dinner. I eat a good diet because of my hypoglycemia so I am going to lean towards it's not nutrition. Any ideas why this is happening? Thanks
any medications for hypoglycemia? I have severe hypoglycemia but im not diabetic. I was told the only way to manage it was eat right and have a "certain diet to follow". are their any medications that are used to treat it? thanks. I dont' have insurance right now which is why im askin on here.
Would hypoglycemia cause constant flushing/blushing? I'm hypoglemic and have a major problem with uncontrollable blushing/flushing - is it due to my sugar problem? For the past couple years I have really let my diet go - I crave sugar all the time and haven't been very careful. I'm just wondering if this may be what is causing my constant blushing? I am going to get my diet under control though.
Hypoglycemia and diabetes - do you limit sugar? Based on my height, weight and lifestyle, I should be eating between 1,300 calories/day and 1,500 calories. Based on USDA, I should eat less than 24 grams of added sugar... and my daily yogurt contains 21 grams of sugar!!!!!!! you should eat 24 grams a day (6 teaspoons) if you eat 1,600 calories 40 grams for a 2,000-calorie diet 56 grams for a 2,400-calorie diet, and 72 grams for a 2,800-calorie diet. My doctor told me to limit sugar... though I have hypoglycemia... she told me that hypoglycemia can be a sign of future diabetes... my family has diabetes. I am not overweight at all (5 foot 1 for 115lbs, I exercise everyday... but I was horrified to see that I eat more sugar than I should and that I still have hypoglycemia. I try to eat muts instead of sugar when I have my symptoms. Any tips from those with hypoglycemia? what do you eat when you feel like you need to get your glycemic level up? I stop everything when I feel shaky and sweaty and I usually sit on the floor/ground until I eat something and I feel ok again.
Does my daughter have hypoglycemia? My 14 month old has had several symptoms of hypoglycemia including tremors when eating, wakes in the night suddenly and very hungry and sweaty... lethargy, wakes in the morning very grumpy (out of character for her, as she is a happy-laid-back baby) and feels better within 30 mins of breakfast. I bought a blood glucose meter. Also ketone strips just to be sure she wasnt showing signs of being diabetic (she has been thirsty and urinating a lot more than usual, but we live in GA)-- the ketone strips were neg. so she isnt spilling ketones into her urine... she hasnt gotten over 109 in 3 days with her blood glucose. Someone recommended trying a "sugar load" test, here is what happened: 9am-before breakfast- BG was 51 -fed oatmeal with honey + 1 cookie 930am-BG level was 109 10am-BG was 69 11am-BG was 95 is this reactive hypoglycemia? can this be alleviated by diet? is this a sign of pre-diabetes? I will be taking her into the Doc but wanted some advice/info in the mean time. Thanks.
Low Blood Sugar Diet? What is a good diet for someone who suffers from severe reactive hypoglycemia? Is there any way to cure or nearly eliminate it?
If I skip meals for over 12 hours I go into seizures? Is this hypoglycemia? Every site I am reading claims the body can't handle the sugar of a normal diet, resulting in hypoglycemia. However, if I do not eat I get all the classic signs of hypoglycemia (the dizziness, horrible ringing in the ears and cold sweating). Please do not tell me to see a doctor because all they do is test blood sugar and say ok you're fine. If I do not eat for 24 hours I go into grand mal seizures. If I eat ONLY protein (Atkins diet) I go into seizures after about 12 hours. Anyone else?
Should hypoglycemia be recognized by mainstream medicine as a classifiable illness? Or could you say that "A more appropriate term would have been ‘dysglycemia’, indicating unstable blood glucose concentrations often seen in a Glucose Tolerance Test of people having ‘hypoglycemic’ symptoms". The quote is from here http://www.hypoglycemia.asn.au/articles/addiction_and_hypoglycemia.html#footnote7 It goes over my head a bit but antidepressant medication has funny side effects that psychologically i can not deal with. I can't drink diet drinks, they make me feel nausae. And there is a link to phenylalanine in the article. My GP is one of those that if it's not in his book it is not treatable and for most other things there is an antibiotic or anti-depressant. He won't even entertain the idea i might be hypoglycemic and all my problems (mental and from there into physical) are due to my body having trouble balancing it's glucose levels. So asking to be referred to a clinical nutritionist is a waste of time. You opinion please? Thanks
hypoglycemia in diet controlled type 2 diabetic? what could cause reaccurent severe hypoglycemia in a type 2 diabetic who does not take any medicine or insulin and is diet controlled? i keep getting severe lows but my doctors dont believe me - i have five meters and they have all been checked against my doctors meters yet she still does not believe it says its impossible, she is an endo, i still get the highs as well and have tried eating less carbs more protiens etc cut out refined sugar all to no avail, it gets worse when i walk around or get any sort of exercise. any ideas?
hypoglycemia and diet ? How to do both? I have hypoglycemia so of course that means when I am hungry I must eat or I get shaky, weak and light headed. But I don't want to constantly eat. So How do I handle this? Instead of eating can I just drink orange juice to keep the light headed systems away? How can I have energy and feel ok but not eat all the time to do so.
Hypoglycemia diet in pregnancy? My sister was just diagnosed w/ hypoglycemia and she is pregnant. She's been having alot of problems w/ dizzy spells and passing out. Her doctor and people keep telling her to eat peanut butter, until her next appt. She really needs more food alternatives! Can anyone offer any advice about what she can eat? Yes I know and understand why they are recommending peanut butter, but obviously she can't live off of peanut butter solely. That is why I'm asking!! Thank you for the helpful answers
Can anyone with Hypoglycemia recommend a reliable way to lose weight when diet and exercise fail? I have tried a combination of DIET and EXERCISE. Please read the question before answering. I've tried fat burning and cardio and have adjusted my diet per doctor's orders. There isn't a specialist that I can see and the doc I'm stuck with doesn't seem to be bothered by the fact that after all the lifestyle changes I have not lost weight. That's why I'm asking for something other than diet and exercise. Diabetes runs in my family and I don't want this to go that far, but please keep in mind that I was not diagnosed yesterday. And please don't waste both our time by advertising hoaxes like aspartame disease. If you want to inform us of a new condition, reference a medical journal, not a propagana website. THANK YOU to anyone who contributes! I have tried a combination of DIET and EXERCISE. Please read the question before answering. Hypoglycemia and diet help please? I have hypoglycemia so of course that means when I am hungry I must eat or I get shaky, weak and light headed. But I don't want to constantly eat. So How do I handle this? Instead of eating can I just drink orange juice to keep the light headed systems away? How can I have energy and feel ok but not eat all the time to do so.

Well, I have hypoglycemia and, right now everything I have tried makes my blood suger go down really low, my doctor told me that when my suger gets low to eat protein to bring it back up, so maybe I am not eating enough protein? I would liek to follow the food pyrimid but I dont really understand how to read it. any help would be great! I cant affored to see a dietician, there is a free doctor on campus at teh college i go to would they be able to make a plan for me?
Hypoglycemia diet help? I went to the doctors Monday, they think I have hypoglycemia (based on readings I got at home) and based on my family's history they think I am pre-diabetic or in the early stages. But I have hypoglycemia and not hyperglycemia... I know I'll probably get all kinds of information Tuesday, but I want to get a head start on it...what should and shouldn't I eat?
Reactive Hypoglycemia Diet? I have reactive hypoglycemia. What do I eat, how do I cook these meals? I need help! I'm so used to cooking hamburger helper and simple things like that. Any tips are greatly appreciated, thanks! Okay, the person that said eat anything, doesn't know what they are talking about. Alright, the serious knowledgable people please answer this. As anyone knows, reactive hypoglycemics must limit refined sugars/carbs. I just don't know how to cook meals that would be hypoglycemic friendly.
hypoglycemia and diet? So i am struggling with my blood sugar levels . I found that trying to eat more often has made me gain some weight. I don't have the best metabolism because i eat rather healthy and work out everyday . So i am very upset over this weight gain . I am currently trying to diet . All veggies and some lean grilled protein but, i am still getting light headed , terrible headaches , tired , weak . etc i don't know what to do to shift my weight without feeling sick .
Hypoglycemia? I am a pre-diabetic with frequent hypoglycemia. I improved my eating habits; eat protein bars in between meals. I have seen many doctors, but none want to help me or acknowledge that I was diagnosed pre-diabetic in the past. I got the shakes twice today, they are unpredictable and dangerous (especially if I drive). What can I do? Is there over the counter stuff I can take to help me stabilize my blood sugar? It is taking a toll on me, I have tried various diets and it results to hypoglycemia Thank you
What snacks can i eat with severe hypoglycemia? I was just diagnosed with severe hypoglycemia and put on a strict diet. The paperwork is a little unclear. What snacks can I eat between meals or on the road? I am use to a heavy sugar diet.
What are the odds that my hypoglycemia progresses to diabetes? I discovered about 5 years ago that I've been hypo all my life. Almost everyone in my family have symptoms of hypoglycemia. At the last hour of my Glucose Tolerance test my blood sugar dropped to 31. It started out at 90. I though I was dying. I've followed the endocrinologist advice ever since (no meds, diet only). Now I have very few episodes - none in the past 2 years. I'm still worried that diabetes is lurking and no matter what I do it will happen. Anyone had the same situation?
Anyone have Hypoglycemia out there? How have you treated it? What is your daily routine like? While I have not been officially diagnosed with Hypoglycemia, I have done some research on it and I have been getting pretty much the same exact symptoms of it lately. Also I have strong family history on my mother's side of diabetes. I have been feeling really tired, weak, and lightheaded off and one lately just from walking around. I will be going to the doctor this week. I am curious to hear from people who have successfully dealt with this. What are your tips and advice. Is there anything you do diet wise to avoid the symptoms?
Ketosis diets and hypoglycemia? So I know a Ketosis diet is basically a really low-carb diet, but I'm hypoglycemic.. How will this effect me going on this type of diet?
How long does it typically take for hypoglycemia symptoms to go away once beginning a proper diet? I was diagnosed with hypoglycemia two months ago when I started having panic attacks, anxiety, dizzy spells, and blackouts. I'm feeling much better now, but I still feel uneasy and disoriented from time to time. This seems to happen at different points throughout my day, so I'm having trouble pinpointing down what food or situation is causing it. I just feel "off". My dad is also hypoglycemic and said it took him two years to feel totally back to normal, but I'm interested in other people's experiences, too. Thank you! Hypoglycemic - diet and exercise? I do not have diabetes (I just had a fasting glucose test and it was 65), which sounds low to me, so I'm pretty much just going to "diagnose" myself with hypoglycemia and I am looking for a diet and exercise ideas for one that is hypoglycemic. And I also have had hypoglycemic symptoms for the past year. What I wanted to ask was, does any one have any good links to a webpage, or suggestions on what is best to eat and when it is best for one to exercise? I sometimes feel very lightheaded and just out of it after I work out (even if I eat well earlier in the day and am well hydrated). I'm also looking at changing my diet to see if that will help me, but I'm not sure how to change it. I know this may not help, but I figure changing my diet around cannot hurt, and if I feel better with it, I'll stick with it! Thanks! I knew someone would tell me not to "diagnose" myself, and I understand. But I have every symptom of hypoglycemia but my doctor told me I was fine from my test. All I am doing is changing my diet and exercising, I figured it would not hurt and the only change it would do (if any) was to help.
loose 10 lbs fast for people with hypoglycemia? it is hard to diet because your blood sugar can drop, and the type of business that i am in dose NOT allow frequent breaks , sometimes no break depending on the business for the day and absolutely no eating on the floor...
do you like the "skinny Bitch diet"? i am thinking about doing the skinny bitch diet. I have about 20 lbs to lose. I also have hypoglycemia and i am anemic, my doctor recommended i go on a strict vegetarian diet...so i thought why no be a vegan? ha ha Thank you for your answers and opinions.
Reactive Hypoglycemia question? Anyone else with this problem have adrenal surges when you get low like in the 70's? Does it cause you to have the runs? I have been on the basic Atkins diet for several weeks and I still can't get it under control. If I don't eat, I am fine, but if I eat even a small meal, I crash. I was tested for insulin levels when I was fasting and had double normal range. The Endo doc is a jerk. She doesn't think there is any real cases of reactive Hypoglycemia. I asked if it could be an "insulinoma" like the ER doc suggested and she said it is so rare that it would be near impossible to have one. Any suggestions? I have not had any carbs other than the bread in a sandwich in weeks and the only time I have anything with sugar in it is when I am crashing and only enough to get my levels back up. I do carry glucose tabs just in case. One tab will bump me up about 20 points or so. I am only eating small meals but I still feel full all the time. I am losing weight also. I have lost 25 pounds in 3 months without trying. I am a bit overweight but not obese or anything. When this problem started I was in perfect shape. Eating healthy and riding my bike 20 miles a day. Now I get winded walking up a flight of stairs. If I exercise I drop even faster. The next Endo appointment I can get is Nov 6th. and it is with a new Doctor.
I need take along snack ideas for hypoglycemia? I was recently diagnosed with hypoglycemia (yesterday lol) and I have yet to meet with a nutritionist to get a really good meal plan going on. Because of other very important medicines that I take I can only use things like diet and lifestyle changes. I know that I am supposed to eat 6 small meals a day but I am a stay at home mom and there is always something or somewhere I have to go. I have a meter etc. I was wondering if anyone had any tips of small meals I could take with me on the go. I've been reading up on the meal plans and things but I just wanted to hear from someone else who has to deal with it.
How is hypoglycemia treated? My doctor just did a blood test and called me to say I might be hypoglycemic. How would they treat this? I don't want to take any medications. I'm in my 20s, have low cholesterol and blood pressure, am not overweight, am not diabetic, and eat a very healthy diet. The only prescription pills I take are oral contraceptives, and I rarely take over the counter meds. I really don't want to have to take something else. How can I control this without meds?
